Few shortcut keys...


 

Shortcut keys help provide an easier and usually quicker method for navigation and also using different computer programs. In other words, they make life easier when using applications.

Shortcut keys are commonly accessed by using Alt, Shift, Ctrl, Winkey (or Windows) in combination with a single letter. Please note that Winkey or Windows key is the key with Microsoft flag logo on it and generally it is located between Ctrl and Alt keys .

Have given below some shortcut keys for Windows and MS Excel. Please note that this is not a definitive list of shortcuts. Rather these are the most frequently used by me.

Windows Shortcut keys

F1 Displays help on the active window or selected item.
F2 To rename file. Select the file and press F2.
F3 Launches 'Search' window.
F4 Displays address bar in Internet Explorer ot Windows Explorer.
F5 For refreshing contents.
Alt + F4 For closing the current program.
Alt + Enter Opens property window of selected item.
Ctrl + Shift + Esc Displays Task Manager.
Shift + F10 Simulates right click on the selected item.
Shift + Del Deletes selected files without moving them to recycle bin.
Winkey Displays or hides the Start menu
Winkey + Break Displays system properties window
Winkey + E Starts Windows Explorer
Winkey + L Lock computer
Winkey + M To minimize all windows
Winkey + Shift + M Undo the minimize
Winkey + D Displays the desktop
Winkey + R Opens the 'Run' Dialog box.

MS Excel Shortcut keys

F2 Edits the active cell and positions cursor at the end of cell contents.
F4 Repeats the last command / action .
F5 Launches 'Go to' window.
F7 Launches spell check.
F12 Launches 'Save as' window.
Alt + Shift + F1 Inserts new work sheet.
Ctrl + ; Enters current date.
Ctrl + Shift + ; Enter current time
Ctrl + Space Selects current column.
Ctrl + F9 To minimise workbook window.
Ctrl + F10 To maximise or restore workbook window.
Ctrl + F12 Launches 'Open' window. Similar to Ctrl + O
Ctrl + 1 To format currently selected cell.
Shift + Space Selects current row.
Shift + F2 To insert comment.
Shift + F3 Opens Excel formula window.
Shift + F5 Launches 'Find' window
Shift + F11 Inserts a new worksheet
